Blog #87 – Today I Get to… Nourish

Welcome to Day 87 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! Yesterday, we continued our final look at each of the habits within The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, considering how Appreciating the good things in your life improves your emotional fitness. In today’s blog, I move onto Nourishing and the importance of building a balanced and healthy diet.

Nourishing

Throughout this 90-day blog writing challenge, I have preached the value of drinking plenty of water and eating lots of fruits and vegetables, or Nature’s Candy as we call it in The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal.

Every day of my challenge, I have set myself the target of drinking two bottles of water each day.

As anyone who has attended a Wellbeing 9-a-Day workshop will know, I use a 1180ml Buzio bottle, which keeps my water at a nice temperature and helps me track my intake.

If I fill and empty my bottle twice each day, I know that I have drunk plenty of water.

For Nature’s Candy, I have worked towards building a habit of eating five portions of fruits and vegetables, starting off with 4 portions, which I hit most days.

Since aiming for five portions of Nature’s Candy each day, I have had mixed results. Some days I far exceed my target. On others, I only get two or three portions, especially if I get my shopping wrong.

Combined, these two habits have helped to ensure that I am putting the right things into my body and building a diet that will support me as I move through life.

Creating a Balanced Diet

While water and Nature’s Candy are essential for a balanced diet, Nourishing goes beyond the two habits that have formed the backbone of my goals.

Taking vitamins, eating fish and intermittent fasting are just a few of the other goals people have used to build habits that benefit their nutrition.

As with many of the habits in the Wellbeing 9-a-Day, Nourishing often ties in with other goals.

I have written previously about how eating Nature’s Candy is a great way of Being Mindful, while Nature’s Candy, nice meals, and water from my Buzio have all made appearances in my Appreciating box.

Over recent weeks, I have also found that Letting Go of food and drink (for me, chocolate and coffee) can have a positive impact on my wellbeing and is just as important for wellbeing.

Whether cutting something entirely or limiting your intake, a healthy diet is as much about what you avoid as what you put in.

Call to Action!

How is your relationship with your diet? Think of ways that you can boost your nutritional intake and ensure that you are hydrating yourself properly each day. By building positive daily Nourishing habits, you can ensure that you mind and body are both fuelled by good energy.
