Blog #69 – Lessons Learned: Connecting

Welcome to Day 69 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! Yesterday, I wrote about what I have learned about Self-caring during my time with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal. In today’s blog, I look at the lessons I have learned about Connecting, and I share my plans for the rest of my time with the journal.

Lessons Learned

Since starting my journey with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, I have been building a habit of connecting with other people every day.

To begin with, I would give myself a tick for Connecting if I had consciously communicated with someone during the day.

During the first 30 days, I connected with my girlfriend, family, and friends, making sure that I was strengthening my relationships each day.

At my Day 30 Review, I created more of a structure to my Connecting by setting myself the target of connecting with my girlfriend at home and someone outside of my house, whether a family member, a friend, or someone else.

As my journey continued, I wanted to split the second part of my target into two parts, so tweaked my target to connect with a family member and a friend.

By connecting with my girlfriend at home, a family member, and a friend each day, I was making sure that I was building habits to strengthen my relationships with the people in my life.

Going Forward

For the first 60 days, I had been looking externally for my Connecting goals, but I changed my perspective on this during a recent Wellbeing 9-a-Day workshop.

One of the attendees had set a goal of connecting with themselves each day, and it helped me view this habit in a whole new light.

While I have enjoyed many benefits from Connecting with other people while using The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, building a daily habit of connecting with myself adds a whole new dimension.

Since my Day 60 Review, my Connecting goals are now to connect with myself, my partner at home, and either a family member or friend each day.

This new approach has helped me connect at three different levels, while also tying in with other habits in the Wellbeing 9-a-Day. Now, my silent, mindful five minutes with my Angel of Appreciation helps me get ticks in Being Mindful, Appreciating, Self-caring, and Connecting all at once.

Call to Action!

Think about the way you are connecting with people. How can you build daily habits that empower you to build better relationships with the people you love? By taking time each day to connect with others, you can strengthen your bonds with others to ensure that you have people to celebrate with in the good times, and support in times of need.
