Welcome to Day 68 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! Yesterday, I wrote about how I have approached Nourishing throughout my journey with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal. In today’s blog, I look at the lessons I have learned about Self-caring, and I share my plans for caring for myself for the rest of my time with the journal.
Lessons Learned
Of all the habits in the Wellbeing 9-a-Day, Self-caring is the one that is most mentioned as the habit that people benefit from most when using the journal.
We should all take time each day to care for ourselves, and yet many struggle to make time for self-care.
Since starting with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, I have focused on caring for my physical body with a couple of stretching routines.
Based on Qigong, my dynamic routine helps activate my body in the morning, while my static routine helps me rehab and prehab back injuries in the evening.
On Day 45, I introduced the habit of doing something for myself each day. Often, this has been watching my favourite shows or enjoying a treat, and I’ve enjoyed the daily habit of making time for something that is just for me.
While my body benefits from stretching as self-care, my enjoyment of life has increased since I made myself accountable for doing something each day that I love to do.
Going Forward
While most of my Self-caring focused on my body for the first 60 days of my journey with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, I realised in my Day 60 Review that I would benefit from taking a more holistic approach to my self-care routines.
To help me build on the habits I developed in the first 60 days, I decided to introduce silence into my Self-caring targets. Even if just for a few minutes, taking some time away from the noise of life gives me a chance to be alone with myself.
One of the great things about this addition is that it ties in with some of the other habits in the Wellbeing 9-a-Day.
I have noticed that Being Mindful is better in the silence, while my focus increases when Learning. My five minutes of Appreciating each day are a perfect time to be alone with my gratitude.
It also ties in with a new approach to Connecting, which I will look at more closely tomorrow.
For now, suffice it to say that the benefits of these Self-caring habits far outweigh the effort I put in to do them.
Call to Action!
Think about the way you are caring for yourself. How can you build daily self-care habits that look after you now and into the future? By taking time each day to give yourself the care that you need, you can build a better relationship with yourself one day at a time.
