Welcome to Day 65 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! Yesterday, I looked at what I have learned about Exercising and set myself some goals for the remainder of my time with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal. In today’s blog, I share some of my lessons about Learning, and I identify ways to improve the way I learn for the rest of the challenge.
Lessons Learned
Since the start of my journey with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, my Learning goals have focused on reading books.
One of these books is The Daily Laws by Robert Greene, the author of The 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction and Mastery. The book has a brief entry for each day of the year, generally a page long, which I have been reading every day.
The other book I have been working through each day has been a book on Qigong, which has helped me learn more about the theory of the daily exercise I have been doing as part of my self-care.
I have now finished the Qigong book, while The Daily Laws gives me something to contemplate every day of the year.
After a period of not reading books, it has been beneficial to get back into the habit of sitting down with a book (or two) and learning about things that interest me.
Since my Day 30 Review, I have also been doing something each day to improve my general knowledge. For years now, I have wanted to appear on Mastermind, a pursuit I will write more about in the next section.
Going Forward
Ever since I appeared on The Chase, I have had my eyes set on an appearance in the legendary black chair. Having appeared on BBC1, ITV and Channel 4, I am now just a BBC2 appearance from completing my quest of being a self-proclaimed gameshow legend.
So far, I have auditioned to appear on Mastermind five times without being chosen to appear on the show. While my application, knowledge test and specialist subjects are enough to get me an audition, I have been unable to make the step up from wannabe to contestant.
Though I can’t be certain, I believe that my general knowledge is the sticking point, which is why I have introduced habits that help me improve my general knowledge. I will also be spending some time each day learning about my specialist subjects.
I have been very fortunate to appear on three of the best gameshows in the UK, and I would be truly blessed to be asked to appear on arguably the most prestigious quiz show of the lot.
By making a habit of learning general knowledge and my specialist subjects every day, I aim to be ready the next time I get a Mastermind audition. Hopefully it will be enough to earn me a space on the show.
Call to Action!
Think about the things you want to learn more about. How can you build daily learning habits that will help you increase your knowledge and skill? By making little efforts each day, you will be amazed how much you will know months and years down the line.
