Blog #57 – Something for Me

Welcome to Day 57 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! Over the past couple of days, we have looked at how I introduced silence and Qigong into my daily routines to help me improve my health and wellbeing. In today’s blog, I look at how introducing the habit of doing something just for you each day can ensure that you get the self-care you need.

Making Time for You

Since we launched The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, we have received some wonderful feedback from people who have benefitted from building the habits that form the basis of a healthy lifestyle.

So far, one of the most common pieces of feedback we have received is that the journal empowers people to make time for self-care.

When you think about it, it’s strange to think that people find it difficult to make time for themselves each day, especially when many people are more than happy to make time for others.

Why is it that many of us find it harder to make time for our self-care, than for other people?

Personally, I have benefitted from the daily reminder to do something each day to take care of myself. For the most part, my habits have been centred on caring for my body with stretching and Qigong.

As my journey has progressed, I have learned that the self-care I need is much more than looking after my body. While Qigong and silence have helped boost my wellbeing, I have made another change to my Self-caring goal that reminds me to do something just for me each day.

Doing What You Love

Adding ‘Do something for me’ to my Wellbeing 9-a-Day habits has reminded me to make time for myself each day.

Where many of my other habits and goals are geared towards improving my health and wellbeing, consciously doing something each day just because I want to do it has been a wonderful addition.

Often, the something for me is just watching something that I want to watch, whether it is my weekly episodes of All Elite Wrestling or the latest instalments of Star Wars or the MCU.

After a prolonged period of overstretching myself with work, I have found making time for myself more difficult than ever.

By incorporating it into my journal, it is almost as if I am giving myself permission to take time to enjoy the things I enjoy.

Rather than feeling guilty or multitasking, I now make time each day for something that is just for me, and I am convinced that it is having a positive effect on my productivity. I know for a fact that it is boosting my health and wellbeing.

Call to Action!

Do something today that is just for you. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is something that you love. By consciously doing something that is just for you, you can ensure that you get some of the self-care that you need.
