Welcome to Day 49 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! Over the past week or so, we’ve considered the habits contained within Your Fitness and how Exercising, Learning and Appreciating improve your physical, mental, and emotional fitness. In today’s blog, I am going to take the opportunity to appreciate our pets, especially man’s best friend – the doggies of the world!
As Good as it Pets
Anyone who has had a pet will know the joy and love they can bring into your life. Having a friend to come home to can make a bad day good, and a good day better.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved dogs.
When I was a kid, my family got a golden retriever called Jack, though he was rehomed before I could really understand the reality of having a dog.
My first real taste of having a dog came when I was just about a teenager. Using my savings to fund one third of a new puppy, I was delighted to welcome Paddy, a Samoyed, into our family home.
Paddy was a big, fluffy, barky doggy, who loved his food and had a penchant for resting the roof of his mouth on radiator nozzles. Every day, more or less, I would take Paddy for his walk, often with my good friend Jimmy and his chocolate Labradors, Reuben and Bess.
I am so grateful for the time I had with Paddy and the lessons I learned about what it takes to care for a pet. Those lessons have served me well with the other doggies I have had the pleasure of caring for over the years.
Dogtor Oliver Watson and His Very Good Friends
I have met so many amazing doggies over the years, all of whom have shown me nothing but love. Whether Bobbi girl, who’s a good girl, Bobbi girl, what a good girl, Bobbi girl, Dogtor Oliver Watson or Athos the Snatcher, it has been my privilege to spend time with so many good boys and good girls.
For a few years, I had the pleasure of running an Instagram account called @dogtoroliverwatson, where I would post pictures and videos of the doggies in my life, more often than not singing silly songs to go with them.
I loved my time with Dogtor Oliver Watson and our regular guests Athos and Bobbi, and I’d like to think they loved their time with me. You can find hundreds of posts on the page to see our life together.
Sadly, Dogtor Oliver Watson and Bobbi have passed on to doggy heaven. Their memories live on, even as the new generation of doggies come through.
Athos is happier than ever, sharing his home with the beautiful Bobbii, a very good girl and wonderful addition to our family. They are visited most weeks by their cousin, the handsome Obi, who loves tennis balls even more than the good Dogtor. Every now and then, they see their good friend Milo, a very good boy from the golden retriever family.
There are too many other doggies to mention, and so I shall think of today as Doggy Appreciation Day, a chance to appreciate all the good boys and good girls in the world.
Call to Action!
Appreciate the pets in your life. Whether a dog, cat, guinea pig or any other animal, take this opportunity to be grateful for the pets you have loved in your life. As a mark of respect to the good Dogtor, I think they deserve an extra biscuit (or animal friendly alternative) this Doggy Appreciation day.
