Blog #48 – International Women’s Day

Welcome to Day 48 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! As we move from Learning to Appreciating, I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the women of the world, specifically the ladies behind Live Well with Cancer. In today’s blog, I want to celebrate International Women’s Day and #EmbraceEquity.

At the start of this blog, I said that I would not write about current events so that future readers can still get value from it, but I am going to make an exception to this to mark a very meaningful occasion.

Today is International Women’s Day, a chance for everyone to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

International Women’s Day aims for a gender equal world, free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. It aims for a world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive, where difference is valued and celebrated.

For me personally, International Women’s Day is an opportunity for me to appreciate the women in my own life. Whether it’s the woman I love and live with, or the women in my family, I am blessed to know many strong and powerful females who all make the world better in their own ways.

The Angel of Appreciation

I was recently gifted an angel by a friend, which I have taken to calling my Angel of Appreciation.

To help make a ritual of my Appreciating for The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, I have started to spend some time with the angel each day, while I appreciate the good things in my life.

Every day, I am appreciating my wonderful girlfriend and the life we share together. We have been together for five and a half years, travelling to three continents and enjoying some amazing adventures together. As well as being a caring and kind individual, Jervie is also a talented, funny, strong and beautiful woman who I love spending time with and makes my life better every single day.

I am appreciating my mam, the woman who brought me into this world. Continuing to inspire me every day with the work she does for Live Well with Cancer, my mam has been through many trials of her own, and I am so proud to say that she has always come through with renewed strength. She is a powerful woman who has been a pillar for many others who have struggled.

I am appreciating my sisters, both of whom have supported me all the way through my life. As well as being awesome people who constantly go out of their ways to help others, they have raised two wonderful sons who I am proud to call my nephews. My sisters are strong, kind, and they are also changing the world for the better in their own ways.

I am appreciating my grandmas, my aunties, my cousins, my friends, and every woman who has contributed to the world that I live in. You all do your best, and that is good enough for me. Keep moving forward.

Today will be a busy day for my Angel of Appreciation, but I don’t think she will mind.

Call to Action!

Appreciate the women in your life today. Whether you read this on International Women’s Day or any other day of the year, take the opportunity to show your gratitude for the women of the world. If there is someone who comes to mind most, contact them, and let them know that you appreciate them!
