Welcome to Day 45 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! This marks the halfway point of my 90-day blog writing challenge to raise funds and awareness for Live Well with Cancer and the Wellbeing 9-a-Day. In today’s blog, I focus on something that I have learned over the past 45 days… just how hard it is to publish a blog every day for 90 days!
Bloggin’ Away
When I started this challenge, I didn’t see any downsides.
I was going to be using The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal as part of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day trial anyway, and my #W9AD blog would help people get the most out of the journal.
On a personal level, writing a daily blog would force me to share my writing with the world and increase exposure to Unreal Ideal, the writing consultancy I founded to create exceptional written work.
All the while, I would be raising funds and awareness for Live Well with Cancer, a charity that empowers anyone affected by cancer to improve their health and wellbeing.
The way I saw it, I couldn’t lose with the challenge. I would be sharing a project I am very proud of with the world, making myself accountable for my writing and wellbeing every day, and supporting my mother’s charity at the same time.
There was just one problem with this otherwise flawless plan… I didn’t account for how long it would actually take.
Is the Glass Half Full or Half Empty?
As I tend towards optimism in life, I prefer to think of being halfway to the end of the challenge, rather than still having half left, but I would do myself a disservice if I overlooked the difficulty of this challenge.
So far, my blogs have totalled over 25,000 words, which is not a crazy total for 45 days. However, it does not include the 10,000s of other words I have written for other projects as part of my full-time job or the fiction and non-fiction books that I am working on in my spare time.
I have also been using The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal to help build nine daily habits for each day I publish a blog, while hosting regular #W9AD workshops and interacting with dozens of people also trialling the journal for Live Well with Cancer.
On top of this, I have also been working two days a week on a side job, which I have only today been able to reduce to one day a week, while still trying to find time to spend time with my girlfriend, my family, and my friends.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have felt the stress grow as I became submerged by obligations that I had brought onto myself.
All this to say that the first 45 days of this challenge have taught me a lot about my limitations and the importance of learning lessons before it is too late. The stress showed me that I was overdoing it, and I have adjusted my situation so that the remaining 45 days don’t overwhelm me.
Life is about learning, and then applying that learning into life.
The most important lesson this challenge has taught me is to make sure I leave time for myself.
Call to Action!
If you can, please show your support for this campaign by donating to my JustGiving page. Now at the halfway mark of the challenge, I have hit my initial target of £500, and have doubled my target for the remaining 45 days. Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated by me and everyone at Live Well with Cancer, who will use the money to empower anyone affected by cancer to improve their health and wellbeing.
This blog was written as part of a 90-day blog writing fundraiser for Live Well with Cancer, a volunteer-led charity serving North Tyneside and the surrounding areas. If you enjoyed this blog, please show your appreciation by donating to my JustGiving page. Every penny raised from donations or sales of the journal will help deliver workshops, events and support groups that empower better health and wellbeing for those affected by cancer, including family, friends, carers, and healthcare workers.
