Blog #38 – Karma Coast and CBD

Welcome to Day 38 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! Yesterday, I wrote about how creating daily rituals can help you practice mindfulness and connect with the moment. In today’s blog, I would like to go into a little more detail about CBD and the associated health benefits.

Karma Coast

The first time I heard of CBD was during one of Live Well with Cancer’s first events, back in 2020, when Dylan and Magda from Karma Coast gave a talk on CBD to a group of around 20 people.

While I admit that I was there at the time to support my mam, rather than out of curiosity about CBD, there were many people in the room who were eager to learn more, many of whom either had or were affected by cancer.

I did not start my journey with CBD then, but the seed had been planted, and it has finally sprouted into my life.

During that time, I have seen Karma Coast grow from strength to strength, providing education on cannabinopathic care, whilst promoting a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. They provide whole plant CBD oils, vapes, capsules, cream balms, and the CBD Hemp Tea that I began my journey with yesterday.

Today, Karma Coast’s dispensary is a mainstay of Tynemouth, with their new coffee shop acting as a community hub for people interested in improving their health and wellbeing.

On my last visit, Dylan, Magda, and the team listened to my needs and educated me on the science and benefits of CBD. They had a customer focused approach that went far beyond the knowledge they clearly have about their products, and it made me wonder why I had taken so long to try their products.

The Benefits of CBD

If you are anything like I was in 2020, you are probably wondering what CBD is.

CBD stands for cannabidiol. Though it is extracted from the cannabis plant, CBD is fully legal in the UK and does not get you high. Whilst it affects your mind by interacting with receptors, it isn’t intoxicating, and studies show that there is extremely low risk of side effects.

Our bodies naturally produce molecules called endocannabinoids, which interact with receptors that are part of a larger bodily system known as the endocannabinoid system. This system plays a huge role in regulating other bodily systems and functions, influencing things such as sleep, memory function, pain, immune function, and mood regulation.

CBD interacts with this system, and its receptors, in a similar way to our own endocannabinoids, by influencing their behaviour. It can help with a range of issues, including inflammation, pain, inflammatory bowel disease, insomnia, migraines, depression, and anxiety.

I am only just beginning my journey with CBD, but already it has provided me with a great mindful ritual, and it is helping me let go of a bad habit and replace it with one that benefits my health and wellbeing.

Call to Action!

Consider whether you would benefit from using CBD. If you are experiencing such issues as inflammation, pain, lack of sleep, depression, or anxiety, trying CBD might help you overcome these issues while you continue your journey with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal.
