Welcome to Day 3 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! As we get used to using The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, I am going to dig a little deeper into each of the sections and share some of my personal experiences with the W9AD. In today’s blog, I would like to focus on how to set effective goals, whilst also sharing my goal of becoming a gameshow legend!
Smart Goals
Setting goals is at the heart of The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal. Whether for Learning, Nourishing, Letting Go or any of the others, each of the W9AD require you to set goals that you can achieve every day. One of the best ways to set effective goals is by using the SMART acronym.
S M A R T
Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-bound
Smart goals is a widely used approach that helps to ensure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound.
Many people set themselves goals in life, such as ‘read more’ or ‘drink more water’. The problem is… it is not clear when you have achieved your goal. Setting SMART goals, such as ‘read one chapter of The Fellowship of the Ring each day’ or ‘drink 2 litres of water each day’, is much more effective, because you know exactly what you must do, and when you have done it.
Becoming a Gameshow Legend
My best and silliest goal is to appear on BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 and Channel 4 whilst wearing the exact same green shirt.
I must admit, when the Pointless costume department chose a horrid green shirt for me to wear on my TV debut, I was a little disappointed. But after what some refer to as the greatest victory since Helms’ Deep, I grew fond of the shirt, putting it away as a keepsake, never to be worn again.
But when Countdown invited me to appear on the show, the cogs began to turn. “Wouldn’t it be funny if I won Pointless and Countdown wearing the same outfit?’ I thought. No more thought was needed. I made my way to the studio with my trusted green shirt in my bag. Only this time, it was my first choice, and the production team had no qualms about letting me wear it.
There I was, halfway to a ridiculous goal, and yet fully committed to making it a reality.
When I was invited to appear on The Chase, there was only one shirt I wanted to wear. For some inexplicable reason, none of the other contestants had brought that same, horrible shade of green, and so I stepped onto the set, one step closer to becoming a self-proclaimed gameshow legend.
Today, I am one appearance (on BBC2) from achieving a goal that I could never have conceived from the outset. As I continue with this blog, I will share a bit more about my gameshow exploits and my quest to appear on Mastermind, in my famous green shirt, of course.
Call to Action
Take some time to write down some goals that you would like to achieve while using The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal. You might want to finish a project, complete a course, or complete a few jobs around the house. Just by identifying the goals that you want to achieve, you allow yourself to create focus and move one step closer to achieving them. ____________________________________________________________________________________________
