Welcome to Day 23 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! This blog writing campaign aims to raise awareness for the #W9AD and promote the services offered by Live Well with Cancer. In today’s blog, I look at the workshops, events, and support groups that this great local charity host each month.
Health and Wellbeing Sessions
Live Well with Cancer was formed to help anyone affected cancer to improve their health and wellbeing. Primarily serving North Tyneside and the surrounding areas, the charity hosts online and in-person workshops, events and support groups that empower people to make positive lifestyle changes that are proven to improve mental and physical health and wellbeing.
Free to patients, family, friends, carers, and healthcare workers, all of Live Well with Cancer’s sessions are facilitated by professionals who can help attendees address the most common health and wellbeing issues, such as anxiety, depression, and low mood. They provide a safe place for people to learn how to improve the quality of their life and develop social connections.
All Live Well with Cancer’s workshops, events, and support groups started as a direct response to the needs of the north east cancer community.
Initially, the charity was formed to host in-person sessions, but the restrictions in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic meant that they had to adapt their work to meet the needs of individuals in an accessible way.
Though being online was not an immediate goal, this has turned into a blessing, as Live Well with Cancer now has a range of well-established sessions both online and in-person, helping them meet the needs of beneficiaries in their preferred environment.
Workshops, Events and Support Groups
It has been an honour and a privilege to facilitate various workshops for Live Well with Cancer. During the pandemic, I co-hosted the Wellbeing Book Club and Creative Writing sessions, helping to connect dozens of readers and writers when restrictions made connecting with people difficult.
After helping to secure funding from the Postcode Neighbourhood Trust, I was one of three facilitators for a wonderful series of Creative Arts and Writing workshops. Exploring such topics as resilience, gratitude, and acceptance, we enjoyed some amazing sessions with in-depth conversations that remain with me to this day.
Recently, I have had the privilege of hosting the first online and in-person workshops for the Wellbeing 9-a-Day, which have been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Sharing the concept with people wanting to improve their health and wellbeing has been a great source of pride for me, and I look forward to helping more people on their journey with the journal.
The charity has a range of regular monthly sessions aimed at improving people’s health, including Art Therapy, Sleep, Coffee Morning, Walk n’ Talk, Craft & Craic, Breast Cancer Support Group, and Relaxation. I have attended most of these and would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to connect with others, or those who would like to place their focus elsewhere.
Call to Action!
Come along to one of Live Well with Cancer’s workshops, events, or support groups! Whether you want to come to a #W9AD session or one of our monthly Coffee Mornings, everyone is welcome to attend these sessions, and I know the team at Live Well with Cancer would love to see you there soon!
