Welcome to Day 19 of the Wellbeing 9-a-Day blog! A few days ago, we have considered the first four key principles that will help you make the most out of your journey with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal. In today’s blog, we are going to consider the last key principle – Rest Day (Best Day).
Rest Day (Best Day)
As much as I preach the value of The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal, there is no denying that everyone needs a rest day every now and then. Sometimes, we need a few rest days in a row to recharge our batteries.
So, if you want to take time off from your journey to improved wellbeing, please do so. We all need days off, even from the things that are good for us. Enjoy your rest day(s), and then get back to it when you are ready.
The dates are blank so that you can continue your journey after your time off.
Chances are that you will do some of your Wellbeing 9-a-Day on your rest days, but that doesn’t mean that you have to track them. All I ask is that you make the most of your days when you are not using the journal.
After all, rest days are the best days.
Practicing What I Preach
In many ways, I am lucky in that I really enjoy what I do. I studied Creative Writing at university and have spent the past 13 years practicing my craft as a writer, both for work and leisure. I’ve spent many a rest day in bed with movies on in the background as I draft an epic fantasy series that has been my passion for at least a decade.
The flip side of this is that I often find it difficult to stop and just enjoy my time off, even when I’m with the people I care about.
A major exception to this is when I am on holiday with my girlfriend.
In four of the past five years (Covid blocked the clean sweep), we have enjoyed unbelievable trips to Austria, Philippines/Australia, Jordan, and Slovenia to celebrate Jervie’s birthday. I am fortunate in many ways with my relationship, most of which I’ll keep to myself, but visiting these places with Jervie has provided me with life highlights that wouldn’t have been possible without her ability to plan magical moments.
Whether skiing, paragliding, or skydiving, I have been blessed to share amazing experiences with the woman I love. Going on trips together has been the backbone of our relationship, and I believe I owe Jervie my undivided attention for her birthday in London, where we will be spending the night watching Hamilton, a musical we have both wanted to see since we met.
While I could have fitted my blogging in on her birthday, I am going to practice what I preach and hit pause on my journey with The Wellbeing 9-a-Day Journal tomorrow.
The best gift I can give this birthday is quality time, and it will be my pleasure to give it.
Call to Action!
What will you be doing on your next rest day? You may want to continue your journey for 90 consecutive days or take your rest days periodically along your journey. Whatever you decide, planning for your next rest day can help ensure that it is as good as it can be, even if it is just a day in bed binging your favourite series.
